Six churches in the Diocese of Durham have been successful in bidding for grants totalling £210,000 awarded under the Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Grant Scheme.

The churches that have been successful in this second round of funding, the first of which was awarded in 2015 are:
- Stockton St Thomas – £35,800
- Kelloe St Helens – £94,900
- Leadgate St Ives – £62,100
- Dalton le Dale St Andrew – £16,400
- Hartlepool St Oswald – £51,900
- Winlaton St Paul – £10,200
The Listed Place of Worship Roof Repair Grant is a government-sponsored fund, set up to help make the UK’s listed places of worship weathertight, safe and open for use.
Care of Churches Secretary for Durham Diocese Bill Heslop said: “I am delighted for the churches that have received grants in this phase two award. The grants will each help the churches concerned to be able to ensure that they are able to maintain the fabric of the building, their architectural significance and place in their community for generations to come.”
Each of the churches awarded grants will use the money alongside funds that they have raised themselves to affect repairs / maintenance of the roof. The extent of work needed on each church is reflected in the size of the grant awarded.
